KATHMANDU: ‘Jewels of Newar Art’, an exhibition of artwork featuring works by over two dozen Newari artists has opened at the Siddhartha Art Gallery, Babarmahal Revisited from April 26.
The artworks on exhibit have been collected by Purna Man Shakya, founder of Bodhisattva Gallery.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Dina Bangdel, associate professor of Asian Art at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA.
Artists including Amrit Dangol, Chandra Maharjan, Deepak Joshi, Devendra Man Sinkhawal, Dinesh Charan Shrestha, Gyankar Bajracharya, Lok Chitrakar, Mina Shakya, Mukti Shing Thapa, Prem Man Chitrakar, Rabindra Shakya, Raj Prakash Tuladhar, Rakesh Maharjan, Ramprakash Shrestha, Ritesh Shahi, Samundra Man Singh Shrestha, Sajiv Shakya, Shankar Joshi, Sukharaj Tamang, Sundar Bajracharya, Sushan Maharjan, Uday Charan Shrestha, Ujaya Bajracharya, Bijay Sarg and Yug Ratna Shakya represent the Paubha art, while Babu Kaji Bajracharya, Bodhi Raj, Gyan Jyoti Shakya, Rajendra Shakya, Rajesh Awale, Sanu Raj Bajracharya, Suman Shakya and Nabin Shakya represent the statue, coral carving, and gold repose.
Founder of Bodhisattva Gallery Shakya said, “With this exhibition and through Bodhisattva Gallery, the goal is to provide the best quality Newar artwork available, produced by the Newar community and showcase it at national and international level. We are starting this exhibition to promote Newar artists and I hope this exhibition helps.”
